More on Backup of your MPLS Network via IPSec VPN

SASE Secure Access Service Edge

As everyone knows, the weakest link in any wide area network is the local loop.  No matter how good the carrier is, local loops will fail at some point.  As with any investment decision, you must consider how critical VPN backup is from a business perspective.

  • If a WAN link were to fail at any site, how expensive would it be to the business to lose the connection to one or more remote sites.
  • Are there provisions in place at each of the sites to operate independently in the event of an MPLS or VPLS network failure – and how long can they sustain?  For instance, if a site can operate independently for, say 48 or 96 hours, it may be that VPN backup is not necessary .  Alternatively, it may be that one day of outage could cost the company a huge in revenue loss and/or stop business operations.

Without knowing the above, it’s hard to quantify the need for VPN backup.  But once you run the numbers, it very well may be worth the investment to architect and configure automatic back-up of your WAN.  The engineers at SD-WAN-Experts can design and develop the configurations to make this work, or fully implement the entire network configuration.
